Wolf of the Willows Brewing Co, Lark Barrel Aged Imperial JSP
Victoria’s Wolf of the Willows Brewing Co is set to release its 2019 Lark Barrel Aged Imperial JSP.
Lark whisky barrels, used as part of a barrel exchange project, were filled with Johnny Smoke Porter and left to age.
The casks were emptied and then returned back to Lark Distillery where they were filled with a hand selected single malt whisky.
Wolf of the Willows says this porter has flavours of vanilla, mocha, peat, dark chocolate, molasses, truffles and espresso.
The Lark Barrel Aged Imperial JSP will be available in mid to late July in 16 x 440ml tinnies and 30-litre kegs. Expression of interest and pre-orders are available now.
Endeavour Brewing Co, Stacked IPA
Endeavour Brewing Co has released its latest brew, the all-Aussie Stacked IPA.
It uses Ella, Vic Secret, Galaxy and Australian Cascade hops and 100% Australian ingredients, says Endeavour.
Released at GABS Sydney, the Stacked IPA is named for the way Endeavour stacks its Sydney Brew Bar Tanks at venue The Rocks.
Endeavour said that it has tropical fruit aromas and a medium mouthfeel. It said the beer had been in the works for two years and is only now being released after “many tweaks”.
It’s available in bottleshops now and is going on tap at outlets including the Endeavour Tap Rooms at The Rocks and selected Sydney venues.
Stone & Wood, Kveik IPA
Stone & Wood’s Pilot Brewery has brewed an IPA using yeast from Norway. Kveik means ‘yeast’ in a number of Norwegian dialects. It covers a range of yeast cultured collected and propagated on farms in Norway for centuries.
Stone & Wood sourced its Kveik from its lab yeast supplier and will continue to trial the yeast with a range of pilot brews in 2019. Stone & Wood said Kveik is supposedly heat and alcohol tolerant, as well as fermenting quickly and delivering consisten flavour profiles such as lemon and lime.
Ingredients in its Kveik IPA include Maris Otter malt and Amarillo and Citra hops. It comes in at 6.4% abv.
Modus Operandi Brewing, Silent Knight Porter
New South Wales’ Modus Operandi Brewing has added a new beer to its core range.
The brewery, based in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, has added Silent Knight porter to its lineup, which will be available in 375ml cans.
Modus Operandi first brewed the beer five years ago, and it has since won a Gold at this year’s AIBA’s.
It is brewed using nine types of malt, and was designed to be a lighter version of a Russian Imperial Stout.
The stout will be available from next week and comes in at 5.6% abv.
BentSpoke Brewing Co, Russian Imperial Stout
ACT’s BentSpoke Brewing Co is set to launch a Russian Imperial Stout.
The Stout has been aged in American oak bourbon barrels. Late in May, BentSpoke’s brewers blended the stout with a fresh Russian Imperial Stout.
The strong stouts – first introduced in the early 1800s were brewed to prevent freezing on route to Russia, which had just been opened up for trade.
BentSpoke’s Russian Imperial Stout comes in at 10% abv, and the brewer is celebrating its latest birthday with the release.
Brewmanity, Demon Brew
Brewmanity has teamed up with Melbourne Football Club to launch its latest limited edition beer, Demon Brew.
The beer was made available to order on 12th June to help raise funds for the football club.
The 4.5% abv lager is a “new age, flavour-filled beer”, based on Brewmanity’s Tango & Splash Juicy Lager which recently won silver at the Australian International Beer Awards.
Bridge Road Brewers, Beechworth Shiraz
Bridge Road Brewers are launching their version of a Beechworth Shiraz in a 330ml stubbie bottle.
It was fermented with only Brettanomyces yeast and released it within three months of vintage.
The fruit for the wine was sourced from Mark Walpole’s Fighting Gully Road vineyard.
It is available now at its Beechworth site, or via its website.
Moon Dog Craft Brewery
Moon Dog Jacket’s IPA and Vinnies IPA
Moon Dog Craft Brewery is launching two new Doggo IPAs, both using Norwegian super yeast Kviek.
Moon Dog’s Jacket IPA is brewed with Azacca, Mosaic and Simcoe Hops, whilst Vinnie’s IPA is a double-dry-hopped IPA brewed using Idaho 7 and Calypso hops. Kviek is a non-purified yeast used for hundreds of years in traditional Norwegian farmhouse brewing, recently made available to Australian brewers. It works best at high temperatures. These beers were fermented at 38 degrees Celsius over two days. Both are 6.5% abv and have been released together to allow customers to compare and contrast the flavours. Jacket and Vinnie’s will be available from next week in 440ml cans.
Moon Dog Cake Hole Stout
Moon Dog’s third new beer this week is its Cake Hole Black Forest Stout, which draws its inspiration from the classic Black Forest gateau – a chocolate sponge cake with a cherry filling. At 6.5% abv, this beer was brewed with Magnum hops and a Wyeast Irish Ale 1084 yeast. Flavours include sour cherries, cacao and vanilla, with an array of malts including Chocolate, Light Crystal and Roast Barley. Cake Hole Stout is out now in 330ml 4-packs.
Stone & Wood Stone Beer 2019
Northern Rivers brewery Stone & Wood has launched its annual winter limited-release Stone Beer.
Stone Beer 2019 was brewed using wood-fired stones – a process used by brewers as early as the 7th century whereby stones are heated on an open fire and then added to the kettle. Stone Beer 2019 is a dark porter with flavours of barley, dark chocolate and coffee. At 7.2% abv, this vintage was brewed with Galaxy and Tettnang hops and Windsor Ale yeast. Malts included Maris Otter, CaraMunich 2, CaraAroma, Carafa, Cherry Smoked Malt. The limited-release porter will be available at select venues and outlets across Australia from June 10. As part of this seasonal release, Stone & Wood will also release its barrel-aged Stone Beer 2018, which has been aged for 12 months in port and second-use whiskey barrels.
Bridge Road Brewers B2 Bomber Mach 9.0
Beechworth’s Bridge Road Brewers is set to launch its B2 Bomber Mach 9.0 bottled beer.
This beer, brewed annually, comes in at 12% abv. The brewery said that the abv was so high this year due to a slower-than-expected bottle conditioning period. Bridge Road also said that the beer is close to being ready, but cold temperatures hitting Beechworth have affected its release from the conditioning room. Therefore, the team has decided to move back the launch of its B2 Bomber to June 21. It will be available at select outlets in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland. The taproom launch is today!
Bright Brewery Sayonara Yuzu Sour
Victoria’s Bright Brewery has launched its Japanese-inspired Sayonara Yuzu Sour Beer.
The brand new brew contains yuzu, a lemon-like citrus fruit that originated in China but is now mostly grown in Japan. Bright’s Head Brewer Reid Stratton brought in 36 kilos of yuzu from Eurobin’s Mountain Yuzu. Coming in at 4.3% abv, the beer is a sour ale with a citrus flavour and dry finish, contrasting the darker stouts and porters that are more typical of the winter season.
“It’s the perfect season to harvest and use our fresh local yuzu, and it’s ideal for those drinkers who are after a lighter beer this winter,” Stratton said.
Sayonara Yuzu Sour will be available on tap and in 330ml bottles from Bright Brewery and select retailers.
Two Birds Brewing portfolio update
Following Two Birds’ announcement this week that it’s dropping its Golden Ale, limiting the availability of its Taco beer and updating its core range, the brewery has also announced the launch of two new limited-release beers.
Two Birds IPA
Available bottled four-packs and in keg, Two Birds’ new IPA is described by the brewery as bold and fresh. Brewed with a mélange of Australian and US hops, this beer is an entirely new style for the Spotswood brewery.
Two Birds Apple Cider
Helping to round out its portfolio is Two Birds’ new Apple Cider. Available on tap at the Two Birds Nest and in six-packs nationwide, this is the brewery’s first foray into cider.
Two Birds Purple Reign
If an IPA and Cider weren’t enough, Two Birds has also brewed a special birthday beer to celebrate eight long years in the brewing industry. Purple Reign Imperial Gose has been brewed with 200 kilos of blackcurrants, reportedly saved from going to waste. The 8% abv gose will be available on tap at the Nest from its birthday on June 13 and then in 500ml bottles across Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and Queensland.
Two Birds Jungle Bird
The second limited-release by Two Birds is the brewery’s Jungle Bird Tropical Hazy IPA. This is a collaboration brew between the female-owned brewery and Malaysia’s Thirst Mag. Inspired by South East Asia’s famous Jungle Bird cocktail, the eponymous beer will be available as a limited, on tap release.
Gage Roads Atomic Beer Project
The Atomic Beer Project is a single-focused side project driven by our Gage Roads brewing team to explore the world of hop-driven ales.
Atomic IPA
The Atomic IPA is described by the brewery as an “approachable” West Coast IPA with bold upfront hop aromas, zesty citrus and tropical fruit characters with subtle malt and crisp bitterness. Brewed with Simcoe, Amarilla and Columbus hop varieties, Atomic IPA comes in at 5.6% abv and will be available in 330ml cans.
Atomic IIPA
The Atomic IIPA is described by the brewery as a “bold” and “adventurous” IPA full of hops. Brewed with Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic, Azacca and Galaxy varieties, Atomic IIPA comes in at 8.2% abv and will be available as a limited release in 500ml cans.
