Australian Tourism Awards 2018 results
The Australian Tourism Awards 2018 took place in Launceston over the weekend with craft breweries and cideries well represented.
Mornington Peninsula newcomer St Andrews Beach Brewery took out the Gold medal for best New Tourism Business. Tasmania’s Willi Smith’s Apple Shed won Bronze in the Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries. New South Wales-based Cupitts Restaurant, Winery, Brewery and Fromagerie was a finalist in two categories, including best Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries and Excellence in Food Tourism. Victoria’s Bright Brewery was also a finalist in the Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries category.

St Andrews Beach Brewery Wins Australian Tourism Award
St Andrews Beach Brewery has won the prestigious Gold award at the 2018 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Launceston.
The Qantas Australian Tourism Awards are the tourism industry’s peak awards – recognising and promoting excellence in Australian Tourism. Having won Gold at the Victorian Tourism awards for New Tourism Business category, St Andrews Beach Brewery automatically qualified for the national awards night.
State winners of New Tourism Business included; Optus Stadium (WA), Peppers Silo Hotel (TAS), Blue Ginger Picnics (NSW) and Waltzing Matilda Centre (QLD).
St Andrews Beach Brewery Co-Founders Jane and Andrew Purchase were overjoyed with the result.
“It’s safe to say we were completely blown away to have won the category for New Tourism Business at the Australian Tourism Awards. We would like to thank everyone who has visited the brewery over the past 12 months and our incredible staff for all of their hard work” said Mr. Purchase.
The Australian Tourism Awards highlights tourism excellence across all facets of a business: business planning, customer service, marketing and sustainability.
“We entered the awards because we wanted to benchmark our business practices against the best in the tourism industry,” said Business Development Manager Tim Purchase.
“We were confident that we written a great submission thanks to the help of Nelly Shaw and her team, but to have won gold at the Australian Tourism Awards was a shock to us all. We take great pride in our marketing, customer service and sustainability practices, so to have won the gold is very rewarding.”
