Bar Series – Beer Four
Brewed by: Scratch Bar, Brisbane
Beer name: The Scrotch
Beer style: Peated Oaked Aardberg 10yo Soaked Scotch Ale
Brewers notes:
We wanted to create a big, malty, complex ale that would pay tribute to the personal favs of the staff behind the bar at The Scratch. The Scrotch is a dangerously sessionable yet challenging beer that backs up the layered crystal malt hues of honey, caramel and burnt butterscotch with American oak soaked in single malt Islay whiskey. Peaty and woody, this ale represents a love for fine craft beer and excellent scotch alike, while the subtle malt sweetness carries those more confronting flavours towards an accessible introduction with those not familiar with Scotch Ales. It should be enjoyed as all ales are at our bar – no dress code, with good friends and fine tunes.
Tasting notes:
This beer has turned out exactly as planned. A big malty scotch ale, that incorporates a huge range of aromas and flavours (who needs hops?). Smokey peat, big oak, huge scotch influence and caramel/choc malt characters come together in harmony ….
