IT’S A FREO HAZE THIS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
For the third year running, an all-female crew at Gage Roads Brew Co and Pink Boots Society Australia have come together to release a special brew for International Women’s Day, with sales helping fund scholarships for women in the brewing industry.
“Freo Haze” is refreshing, juicy and packed with flavour. A hop trifecta of Strata, Galaxy and Citra brings bursts of tropical fruit, citrus and red berry. There’s firm bitterness and a rounded mouthfeel to finish. “We wanted to try something different from our pervious IWD releases, and brew something a bit bigger that’s packed with heaps of flavour and aroma,” explains Gage Roads Freo head brewer Simone Clements.
“We’ve been having fun with Hazies recently, while experimenting with different yeast strains and dry hopping techniques in the brewery. We’ve managed to get that big fruit bowl flavour that the style is known and loved for, which is super exciting.”
Gage Roads Brew Co has again teamed up with Pink Boots Society Australia for this year’s IWD release, with proceeds from the sale of Freo Haze funding $10,000 worth of scholarships to help support the education and development of women in beer.
“It’s fantastic that we’re able to contribute to the Pink Boots scholarships, which helps women in the beer industry develop professionally via a range of different training courses. These courses go beyond beer too, helping women in the industry develop broader skills. “Alongside that, it’s just great to have the chance to celebrate women in beer. These projects allow women in the industry to get together, meet new faces, and potentially plan for new and exciting collaborations in the future.”
Freo Haze is one of the first limited releases to be brewed at the new Gage Roads Freo brewpub. Opening in mid-Jan, the venue is equipped with a 25-hectolitre, 16 litre brew-kit, that Simone uses to brew the full range of Gage beers that you’ll find on tap.
“Brewing on the new kit has definitely been a fun, learning experience. This brew threw us a few curveballs, but that’s where the fun comes in! We’re really proud of Freo Haze and can’t wait for everyone to enjoy a pint this International Women’s Day.”
Along with Simone, Clare Clouting (quality manager), Bec Lauchlan (brand manager) Mimi Crompton (brand manager), Sophie Osborn (designer), Reinie de Vos van Steenwijk (venue marketing manager) and others were involved in the project from start to finish.
Freo Haze will be available on tap at a range of pubs and bars across WA, while also pouring at Gage Roads Freo. To celebrate the release, Gage Roads Freo is holding a new brew launch on March 8, from 6 to 8PM. There will be live music from local Triple J Unearthed artist Johannah Grace, and the first 100 Freo Haze schooners will be on the house.
