Hemingway’s Brewery coming to FNQ

Construction has begun on a new microbrewery, bar and restaurant that is slated to open in Port Douglas, Queensland in May 2016.

Founded by local duo Tony Fyfe and Craig Parsell, Hemingway’s Brewery is part of the multimillion-dollar expansion of The Reef Marina.

“We wanted to create a waterfront offering that has not yet been experienced in Port Douglas,” said Fyfe.

“We want Hemingway’s Brewery to become part of the Port Douglas story – a place where locals can meet to relax, enjoy an authentic craft beer and take in the slice of paradise we call home.”

Also partners in luxury fishing charter business, Far North Sports Fishing, Fyfe and Parsell believe their brewery will provide a fitting end to a day on the water.

“It would be great for guests to spend a day out on the Great Barrier Reef, stepping off the boat and into a craft brewery located right on the water’s edge,” said Fyfe.

Costa Nikias of Beverage and Brewing Consulting is consulting on the brewery setup.

“We are actually right now in the middle of recipe development with Costa,” Fyfe told Australian Brews News.

“We believe one of our biggest challenges will be educating the Far North Queensland palate, which is a lot less sophisticated than down south.”

At this stage Fyfe said the range will likely include a Lager, Pale Ale, Session IPA, Dark Ale and an Alcoholic Ginger Beer.

Besides the beer, Hemingway’s will offer a menu of gourmet pizzas, tapas and BBQ-style food.

The two-level venue covers a total space of 850 square metres and will seat at least 450 people, comprising both indoor and outdoor areas.

The brewery’s top floor will include a bar and event centre with spacious decks boasting stunning views across the marina. The ground floor will incorporate a garden bar, lounge bar and enclosed children’s play area.
