Canberra’s BentSpoke Brewing Company has followed up its gold medal effort at the 2019 International Beer and Cider Awards with a champion trophy.

In March this year, the brewery was awarded a gold medal for its Barley Griffin Pale Ale and a silver medal for its Crankshaft IPA. Last FridayChampionship titles were awarded in London with each trophy recognising the best of the best in each beer or cider category.

BentSpoke’s Barley Griffin took out the champion trophy in the International Small Pack Ale Competition.

BentSpoke head brewer Richard Watkins said in a statement that the brewery is “truly honoured” to be so recognised at the oldest brewing awards in the world.

“Winning an award like this is a testament to how committed the whole brew team are,” Watkins said.

BentSpoke is the only Australian brewery to secure a championship trophy at the 2019 IBAs.

At the March awards, three Lion-owned Australian breweries, XXXX, James Boag’s and Hahn, also received medals.

The International Brewing Awards have been held in the UK since 1888 and are colloquially known as the Oscars of beer. With a 130-year history, the Awards are the oldest brewing competition in the world. Over 200 breweries and cider mills submit entries and medals for judging in nine beer categories.
