Best of Australia’s craft breweries to unite at Trainworks

Australia’s finest craft breweries will converge on the tiny town of Thirlmere on August 25 for the inaugural Trainworks Winter Beer Festival – the only festival of its kind to unite the engineering and craftsmanship of mighty engines and mighty fine beer.

The craft brewing sector is the fastest growing segment of Australia’s estimated $4.9 billion packaged beer market and the Trainworks Winter Beer Festival will be a celebration of the brands and the brews that are driving demand for craft beer.

Holgate Brewhouse, Illawarra Brewing Company, James Squire, Little Creatures Brewery, Matilda Bay Brewing Company, McLaren Vale Beer Company, Mountain Goat Brewery, Murrays Craft Brewing Company, Redoak, Stone & Wood Brewing Company, 4 Pines Brewery, The Little Brewing Company, The Rocks Brewing Company and Two Birds Brewing are among the confirmed breweries that will host tastings for an anticipated crowd of 2500, made up of beer lovers and their families.

Food lovers will not be disappointed. A hearty line up of eateries offering warming winter fare have been selected to ensure the fine quality beer on offer is complemented by food of an equally high calibre.

“Today’s beer drinkers, and particularly those who favour craft brews, are interested in partnering their beer with appropriate and interesting food matches. At the Trainworks Winter Beer Festival we’ve appointed an eclectic range of eateries offering something to satisfy every appetite,” says Kirrily Waldhorn, The Beer Diva and ambassador for the Trainworks Winter Beer Festival.

Trainworks CEO Rob Austin is thrilled by the eagerness of craft breweries to participate in the festival and looks forward to hosting a fabulous day out for beer lovers and their families.

“What’s fantastic about our site is that we have the capacity to move the event under cover in the case of bad weather. While our aim is to execute the event outside on the Trainworks lawns, if it rains we’ll move inside to the Great Train Hall and Main Exhibition Building, which bears striking resemblance to a German beer hall.”

In addition to having the best craft breweries Australia has on offer confirmed for the event, Trainworks has ensured that designated drivers and kids will also be looked after. There will be live entertainment all day and a kid’s area featuring jumping castles and other activities.

Trainworks, Australia’s newest and biggest train related attraction, was the beneficiary of a $30 million upgrade in 2011. Located in Thirlmere, a pleasant hours’ drive south of Sydney, it’s the perfect distance for a daytrip and offers a fresh, rural setting for a major food and beer event.

Coaches to the Trainworks Winter Beer Festival will operate from The Local Taphouse Darlinghurst – ‘the best beer bar in the land’ and Campbelltown Railway Station. Pick-up times and booking details will be confirmed soon.
