Bintani announces partial sale to US supplier Rahr

Sales and partnerships continue apace in the Australian beer scene as Bintani Australia has announced a partial sale to US counterpart Rahr Corporation.

Family-owned Bintani was established in a backyard shed in Melbourne and has grown to be a major supplier to and supporter of the Australian craft beer industry.

Rahr Corporation was founded in 1847 by German immigrant and brewer, William Rahr. The company is still owned and operated by the Rahr family, now in its 5th and 6th generations.

Bintaini said in a statement, “We are very proud and excited to enter into this new phase, partnering with another family-owned company that has served the brewing industry in the USA and Canada for five generations.”

Bintani said that Rahr runs a business called Brewers Supply Group and the similarity of businesses together with Rahr’s experience would “ensure Bintani continues to provide the world’s best products and outstanding customer service to the industry”.

Bintani said it will continue to operate as it currently does and there will be no change of management. No details of the sale have been released or the percentage of the business that has been sold, but the Meddings family still retain a ‘significant portion of the business’.

Bintani commenced operations selling yeast, before expanding into hops and later malt. It operates warehouses in Melbourne, Perth and recently opened a warehouse in Brisbane.

Brewers Supply Group supplies craft brewers, winemakers, home fermentation retailers, craft distillers and cider makers throughout North America.

The sale follows Cryer Malt’s acquisition by Barrett Burston last year.
