Brick Lane Brewing in collaboration with Carwyn Cellars is releasing another All Together beer in response to the second Covid-19 lockdown and Stage 4 restrictions Melbourne is experiencing.
This beer will be a modern interpretation of a classic 7.4% West Coast IPA bursting with Chinook, Strata,
Motueka and Ella hops. Proceeds from every sale will be donated to Covid-19 Employee Assistance Directive (CoVid19 E.A.D), an initiative established during the first lockdown to support Melbourne hospitality workers.
“The impact of the past five months was already felt by our hospitality mates, so we are very aware of the huge impact that this second lockdown is going to have on our friends in the hospitality industry” according to Paul Bowker, Brick Lane Brewing’s Managing Director.
“So much of Melbourne’s personality and way of life lies within its bustling hospitality scene and the incredible people that give so much to the city. Melbourne needs these people and right now these people need us.”
Where the first release was a Hazy IPA, there’ll be nothing hazy about the second All Together beer. Head Brewer Jon Seltin and his team have given us a throwback to the classic West Coast IPA, a beer that is incredibly dry and bitter. There’s some melon, tropical and slightly fruity notes but this beer is everything you expect from a classic West Coast style – bitter, resin and dank.
The Brick Lane brewing team ended up using a combination of classic and new world hop cultivars, with
Chinook, Motueka, Strata and Ella hops all playing a feature role. This beer is extremely flavourful but, as Jon says, “a beer you’ll drink to quench the bitterness”.
CoVid19 E.A.D is an initiative started by two Melbourne bar owners that quickly turned into an outreach
program providing unemployed hospitality professionals with chef-cooked, pre-packaged meals.
The CoVid-19 E.A.D team of volunteers cook, pack, and deliver up to 2,000 meals each week to unemployed hospitality workers, offering some relief and support in the form of food and essential supplies. All meals are free of charge.
The worldwide All Together beer collaboration was started by Other Half Brewing in New York City in March in response to the first wave of Covid-19. Over 700 breweries across the world released a beer in this campaign specifically to help out hospitality workers who have had their livelihood impacted by Covid-19. Brick Lane Brewing was one of several Australian breweries who supported the initial campaign to help hospitality workers in their local area.
Brick Lane Brewing began when a group of friends united over a plan to do things differently. Together they helped build one of the most innovative, flexible and sustainable independent breweries in the world that was transparently based around community. Located in Melbourne, the brewery notches up its second year of operation this month, a milestone that could not have been achieved without the support of Australia’s wonderful community of brewers, barley growers, hop farmers, retailers, suppliers, publicans and importantly those who buy our beer and those who serve it to them.
Paul adds, “This beer directly helps those who have helped us so much in the past, so it is a project that is very dear to the hearts of all those in the Brick Lane Community. To go through a second lockdown is challenging and the opportunity to help our hospitality friends a second time means the world to us. We can’t wait for venues to open their doors again on the other side of it all and share a laugh with our publican, retail and hospitality friends once again. We thank everyone who supported the All Together campaign last time and encourage you to do the same again, no matter where you are in Australia’.
The beer will be released in 375ml cans and will be available in a straight 16 pack for $105 or in a 4pk for $24. Brick Lane is also including it in a special All Together All About Hops pack. This 16pk case includes four cans each of All Together West Coast IPA, Avalanche Hazy IPA (limited release), Revolver Dark Hoppy Ale (limited release) and Supernova IPA, for $85 per case.
The Brick Lane All Together West Coast IPA will be available from Friday 28 August on Brick Lane Brewing and Carwyn Cellars websites.
