The CBIA and Australian Workplace Management launch safety programme

Media Release

CBIA logoThe Craft Beer Industry Association is committed to working with all sections of the Australian craft beer industry and our partners to ensure that the highest standards of workplace health and safety are met and maintained within our industry.

To that end we have partnered with Australian Workplace Management (AWM) as our provider of choice for workplace health and safety systems.

AWM have over 20 years experience in helping Australian industry with workplace health and safety.

This CBIA initiative is being overseen by industry pioneer Chuck Hahn.

“We all know how important workplace health and safety is to our industry.

Australian Workplace Management logo“Establishing and maintaining a safe work environment in our breweries is both a legal and moral responsibility and a failure to do so can have dire consequences.

“While we have thankfully been free of serious incidents in Australia a number of brewery workers have died in other parts of the world in recent years.

“The CBIA is committed to doing what it can to help lift and maintain the workplace health and safety standards for the industry in Australia. We began this by ensuring that it has been a topic at both the 2013 and 2014 Australian Craft Brewers’ Conferences.

“The next step will see us entering into a partnership with WHS experts Australian Workplace Management to provide a cost effective system that will allow Australian breweries to achieve compliance to Australian Standard 4801:2008.

“AWM have already been working with Neal Cameron from The Australian Brewery to implement a safety programme in his brewery that systematically introduces the principles and practices of safety management in accordance with the relevant legislation.”

Neal Cameron recently told Australian Brews News that: “This package is designed for both the operator of the brewery as well as the staff actually using the equipment and working in the environment day-to-day.”

The AWM representative on the project is Lester Stump.

“A pilot project has been underway through The Australian Brewery and Neal Cameron over the last 12 months to establish an effective but simple way to develop and implement WHS in breweries. The WHS programme is set up to be standard across the industry,” he said.

“Special rates have been negotiated to provide WHS systems information, training and support. We will also be maintaining a Brewery Safety page on the CBIA website for updates and alerts on the CBIA website as well as moderating a Brewery Safety forum for CBIA members in the Members Only section.”

The CBIA has negotiated a flat rate for the training and WHS systems information with CBIA members receiving a 10% discount.

Training days are being planned for breweries to take up this initiative and develop and implement WHS at your breweries. Training participants will be to a maximum of 10 breweries at a time with a maximum of 2 representatives attending.

An early bird discount of 10% is being offered on top of the already discounted rates for the first training day for registrations prior to 28th February 2015.

There are two tiers to the WHS program with a STARTER PACK and a WHS SYSTEM COMPLIANCE pack. Both include training and systems information.

The Starter Pack will be $3,000 + GST

The Compliance Pack $4,500 + GST

Certificates of competency will be provided to delegates successfully completing the training course materials.
