Colonial, Brewmanity in Eisbock Challenge
The biggest single day event for Good Beer Week – Beer Vs Beast – is back. Beer, music, fun and fundraising will be the headline acts as Brewmanity Beer Co. and Colonial Brewing Co team up to pour out the good beer, good deeds and good times in support of the Cure for MND Foundation on Saturday May 13.
Having already raised over $100,000 for the Foundation, Brewmanity co founder David Neitz hopes this years’ event will encourage more beer lovers to join in the spirit of doing good things just by drinking damn good beer.
“The day is all about exploring new beer projects, raising some funds to discover more about the devastating effects of MND, and having a bit of fun along the way,” said Neitz.
Brewmanity and Colonial will be collaborating on the production one of the more technically difficult beers to produce – the ‘Big Freeze’ of brewing – an Eisbock.
An Eisbock is produced via a brewing process where beer is partially frozen after fermentation. The frozen water is then extracted to produce sweet biscuit flavours and a more highly concentrated brew.
Brewmanity Brewer, Mick Jontef, said’ “We looked at the Ice Bucket Challenge, and the Big Freeze events that have raised so much money and awareness for MND, and we thought it made perfect sense to take on the brewers ‘Big Freeze’ challenge and make an Eisbock. We’ve named it Dr. Freezemeister in honour of Dr Ian Davis, the founder of the Foundation.”
With 700 people helping to raise over $50,000 for the Cure for MND Foundation at last years’ event, the Brewmanity and Colonial teams are looking to reach similar heights this year.
Ash, Head Brewer of Colonial Brewing Co said “We are excited to not only team up to support a good cause but put the brewers to the test to create such an exciting beer.”
The event will take place at Colonial Brewing Co in Port Melbourne and will not only consist of great beer and food trucks but an exciting musical lineup including headlining act Diesel.
Beer Vs Beast will be held at Colonial Brewery on Saturday May 13 from 1pm to 6pm. Tickets are $49.99 and can be purchased from the Good Beer Week website.
