The inaugural Gold Coast Beer and Cider Festival scheduled for 23 October has been postponed, with the prospect of continued border closures making it impossible for interstate brewers to participate.

The event has been rescheduled for Saturday, 22 October 2022,with City of Gold Coast council confirming the event venue in the Broadwater Parklands.

Festival organiser Jenny Farrell said that when the Festival was conceived in the middle of the year it was assumed that the border situation would have stabilised by October allowing full participation by interstate brewers.

“Unfortunately, it now seems very unlikely that borders between Queensland and New South Wales and Victoria will reopen in the near future, which would prevent brewers from these major States attending the Festival,” said Ms Farrell.

“The decision is disappointing but unfortunately necessary. We want the Festival to become the benchmark craft brew festival In Queensland, and so it is critical that we launch the event in optimum conditions.

“We were very pleased with the response from the public to the announcement of the event, and ticket sales were performing strongly, which is very encouraging. Hopefully, conditions next year will be more favourable to attract visitors from both Queensland and interstate.

“We look forward to working with the City of Gold Coast,Major Events Gold Coast and Queensland’s tourism authorities to make the Festival a huge success in 2022.”

Refunds are being arranged for all tickets purchased.
