In 2011 Good Beer Week launched. It was ambitious with 48 events celebrating good beer across Melbourne.
Good Beer Week has grown every year since and in 2019 it featured more than 300 events in 10 days.
As it opens registrations for next year’s festival Good Beer Week’s head of events, Siobhan Kerin thinks in that time the team has learned to throw an awesome party, but they can’t do it alone.
“Like every year we need venues around Melbourne and regional Victoria to create events that amaze and excite the public,” she says. “We are looking for original and unique ideas that showcase just how far good beer has come and help us celebrate our 10th anniversary.”
In 2018 Good Beer Week announced a merger with the Independent Brewers Association (IBA) and whilst the IBA is a member organisation with a purpose around building a collective voice for Independent Brewers, it sees Good Beer Week as a broad promotion and celebration of beer as a category with an opportunity to raise the profile of Indie Beer within it.
“We’ve always emphasised that Good Beer Week is about good beer first and foremost. It’s part of our charter and it’s what we always preach,” Kerin says.
In previous years Good Beer Week has had epic long-table beer dinners, opera and sour beer in St Paul’s Cathedral, live wrestling in a brewery, beer dodgeball, and vegan feasts. This year the team plans to look back on their favourite events and hopefully revive them, as well as highlighting the venues and events that have been with us since the start.
“It’s incredible looking back and seeing names like Grain and Grape System Wars, The Local Taphouse Brewers and Chewers, Beer Deluxe’s Hair of the Dog breakfast, and Beer Vs Pig at Atticus Finch. Those events are still with us ten years on and each year still sell a lot of tickets. Hopefully in another ten years we will have a longer list of events that have been with us a decade.” Kerin says.
Good Beer Week 2020 event registrations are open from Oct 1 – Oct 31. Please head to goodbeerweek.com to register your event or contact email@example.com.
