Media Release
Following the enormous success of this year’s inaugural Ballarat Beer Festival, tickets for the 2013 festival go on sale Wednesday, August 1.
A sell out event in 2012, the picturesque Ballarat City Oval was packed with locals, Melbournians, Victorians and beyond. The success of year one has seen the day quickly establish itself as a highly anticipated annual event on the city’s entertainment calendar.
A celebration of Ballarat, boutique beer, gourmet food and great Australian entertainment, the Ballarat Beer Festival Team will ensure that all of the much talked about features of this year’s festival are again included, with many new and exciting additions as the festival grows.
2013 will see the festival showcasing more bands, more breweries and more summer fun for the entire family.
Year two promises an even greater range of craft beer and ciders from the best Australian microbreweries. Confirmed breweries to date include Holgate, True South, Otway Brewing, Mornington Peninsula, Bridge Road, Southern Bay, Kwencher, Kooinda, and Hawthorn.
Festival goers can sample the frothy wares from a wide range of highly regarded breweries and chat directly to the masterminds behind them – the passionate brewers.
Festival Co-Director, Kate Burrows said, “We’re excited about the support from the craft beer industry and are looking forward to over 25 breweries joining us for our second year.”
The festival will be showcasing well over 100 different craft beers and ciders.
For those interested in learning more about the wonders of liquid gold, Ballarat is the place to do it. This year will see the addition of an educational marquee where attendees can discover more about the nation’s favourite libation.
A range of industry experts will be present to share their knowledge of beer and food matching, the history and the brewing process of this great drop.
Ballarat is unquestionably a town rich in brewing tradition and heritage. At the heart of the festival are Ballarat locals passionate about promoting the city and its brewing heritage.
The team behind the festival is hoteliers Simon Coghlan and Tim Kearney who own and run Ballarat’s Golden City and Western Hotels, event manager and local girl Kate Burrows and major event marketing specialist Lyndell Pond.
Simon Coghlan’s great-great-grandfather founded the Ballarat Brewing Company, so he has strong ties to both the brewing industry and the region.
Coghlan said, “ We were thrilled with the sell-out event in year one and how enthusiastically it was embraced by the local community, and we look forward to bringing more great benefits to the city next year.”
The high caliber music line-up will include high profile names from the Australian music industry, up-and-coming artists and great homegrown Ballarat bands.
Reprising their roles as event MC’s Australia’s funniest home brewers Charlie Pickering and Danny McGinlay will be joined again by Australia’s first lady of Beer, The Beer Diva Kirrily Waldhorn.
From the superb brews, wines and gourmet food available to a top-notch entertainment line-up and family activities, there’s something for everyone. After selling out on the day of the festival this year with queues at the entrance, music lovers and beer enthusiasts are encouraged to book early for the 2013 Ballarat Beer Festival.
