Hops to it and get brewing
Entries are now open for the Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show’s (RQFWS) Beer and Cider Competition which will return in 2014 after a major restructure.
With the ongoing popularity of craft beer and cider, along with a number of microbreweries taking Brisbane by storm, will it be a local that takes out the top gong?
After a brief hiatus Chief Judge Ian Watson is happy the competition is returning and is looking forward to top quality entries coming in not only from Brisbane, but from across the country.
“There has been so much growth in the Australian beer and cider industries over the past few years and producers have become much more adventurous with their products,” he said.
“It’s so important to showcase what’s on offer and reward those stand out entries.
“I’m pleased to announce that this year I will be joined by Chief Cider Judge Neal Cameron and we will be working under a new structure with a dynamic team of judges to ensure the best is recognised.”
The restructure of this year’s competition will include alignment with the USBA style guidelines and draught beer now being accepted in traditional bottles or growlers, flagons and self-contained 5 litre kegs.
Featuring a dedicated team of brewers, beer writers and industry figures, the RQFWS Beer & Cider Competition offers a comprehensive snapshot of the quality of Australian brewing and a trustworthy guide for consumers.
Entries close 23 May 2014 and winners will be announced at the Awards Presentation, Brisbane Showgrounds Auditorium at 11.30am, Friday 27 June 2014.
The RQFWS, established in 2009, has surpassed all expectations, and is one of the nation’s premier food and wine competitions.
In 2013 the RQFWS attracted more than 2300 entries across eight major competitions.
This year the eight prestigious competitions are made up of the Cheese & Dairy Produce Show, Ice-Cream, Gelato and Sorbet Competition Supported by Majors Group Pty Ltd, Branded Lamb Competition, Branded Beef Competition, Royal Queensland Wine Show (RQWS), Sausage King and the exciting return of the Chocolate Competition and Beer & Cider Competition.
