Now there’s something arguably more desirable at Melbourne Airport than an airport lounge pass.
After operating a successful pop-up beer garden at Melbourne Airport for the past two summers, multi-award winning local brewery Stomping Ground Brewing Co has now opened its new permanent Brewery and Beer Hall inside Terminal 3. It is the first working brewery inside an airport in Australia, and only the fourth in the world.
With its Collingwood operation judged Best Brewpub in Australia by Beer & Brewer magazine for the past three years, the opening of Stomping Ground Brewery & Beer Hall at Melbourne Airport is part of a broader initiative by airport management to showcase some of the city’s most loved cafes and bars and better reflect its renowned food and drink culture.
The Stomping Ground team believe beer should be for everyone so the 30 taps will pour a wide range of beer styles to suit all tastes, from laid-back easy drinkers to the more adventurous. While most beers will be brewed at their main Collingwood brewery, as many as 30 different beers will be brewed onsite each year. Customers are even invited to name one of the first beers brewed at Melbourne Airport by suggesting a fun airport-related name on Stomping Ground’s social media channels.
Collaborating again with the designers behind Stomping Ground’s original Collingwood brewpub, Studio Y, and featuring large murals from local artist Justine McAllister, the venue will be open 5am – 9.30pm every day with a full restaurant and bar menu. Takeaway beer will also be available to take home or on your flight.
Even better news for people not flying Virgin Australia is that whilst it is located past security in Terminal 3, anyone can visit the brewpub whether they are flying Virgin or not.
Justin Joiner, co-founder Stomping Ground said:”We’re incredibly excited to be representing Melbourne’s thriving independent brewing scene, and joining some of the city’s best food and drink operators at our own airport.”
“The enjoyment of tasting different styles of beer is behind the explosion of interest in local breweries. We’ll be tapping new beers most weeks so there could well be a new beer added between when you depart and arrive home!”
