Taphouse takes title

The Local Taphouse, Sydney, has taken out the title of Best Specialty Beer Venue at the 2010 Australian Bar Awards.

The Local Taphouse team with their gong

This is the second gong in succession for the Sydney Taphouse which saw it beat out stiff competition from other great venues including Melbourne’s Biero and Cookie, Sydney’s Epoque Belgian Beer Café, Toowoomba’s The Spotted Cow and Adelaide’s The Wheatsheaf.

Specialty Beer Venue award recognises those bars and pubs that have a great beer selection, informative service and beer knowledge that sets them apart from the pack.

Taphouse owner Steve Jaffares said that he was proud of both of his venues.

“With more and more venues focussing on craft beer the competition is getting much fiercer for this award,” he said.

“We set out to create the best beer experience in Australia and to have won this two years in a row shows that we are on our way to doing that.

“I see it as an acknowledgement of both of our venues, and it rewards the hard work of our very committed team.”

Steve said he felt that the competition for awards such as this demonstrate that beer is really starting to come of age in Australia and that consumers were becoming much more discerning in their drinking, but also where they choose to drink.

The Taphouse ads this to a string of awards already won, including Best New Bar at Timeout Sydney Bar Awards.
