Sydney’s Wayward Brewing is poised to open the doors to its new 150-capacity tasting room sometime late in August.

Wayward is just about fully established on the former site of an urban winery on Gehrig Lane, Camperdown, which makes for one of Sydney’s largest and most unique microbrewery setups.

And it’s just across Pyrmont Bridge Road from James Squire HQ, the Malt Shovel Brewery.

Founder Peter Philip told Australian Brews News he has also been fortunateto secure a new type of liquor licence that does not confine him to selling only samples of his own beers.

“It gives us authorisation to serve wine, for example. I think we may be the first brewery in Sydney to get that because it’s a relatively new thing,” he said.

Philip has lured Shaun Blissett, formerly of Illawarra Brewing Company, to join him on the brewing team.

They are currently in the process of decorating the cellar door and putting the final touches on the brewery to start production very soon.

“We’re going to have 12 taps at the brewery, so we’re going to have to fill them up with crazy new beers,” Philip said.

“The intention was that we’d have maybe six regulars, two seasonals and four experimental beers at any one time.”
