Whisky – the other white malt
All of us who enjoy the occasional beer will probably be aware of the nexus between the amber nectar and that other popular tipple, Whisky. Named for the Gaelic phrase for ‘Breath of Life’ whisky is a malt-based beverage which, like beer, has many and varied stylistic interpretations but is often thought of as one-dimensional (just like beer) by those unaccustomed to its charms.
For those wishing to explore the other pale malt, The Local Taphouse in Melbourne is offering the perfect educational opportunity. Whisky at Wilfred’s is a monthly tasting session along the lines of the very popular Ale Stars concept featuring a guided tasting of several styles or brands of whisky with the occasional special guest and, knowing the Taphouse crew, plenty of surprises along the way.
To be held in the newly created and casually comfortable Wilfred’s Lounge, Whisky at Wilfred’s promises a regular instalment of entertainment and education in a friendly and relaxed environment. To kick-off the program, Evan Hunter from Lark Distillery in Tasmania, will be the guest and will tap a very special keg of Willie Simpson’s Seven Sheds Scotch Ale matured in Lark whisky barrels.
Tickets for these events are available through the events page at www.thelocal.com.au for just $45 which includes the whisky, nibbles and edu-tainment. The night kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday August 29th.
