We normally don’t do many give-aways…mainly because there is so much work involved in sorting entries, notifying winners, wrapping the prizes, licking stamps and getting to the post office that prizes can take forever to reach the deserving readers who win (sorry bout those Chimay glasses Joe!). Competitions can also seem a little tawdry and just a little like a desperate grab for clicks, not the right look for a high brow site like Australian Brews News…

But when we have a PR company willing to do most of that for us and all we have to do is say “we’re giving away a really cool prize”, we’re happy to look a little tawdry, especially when we know it is indeed a really cool prize that many of our readers will want.

In this case, take one rock star of North American craft brewing, the most dynamic brewing scene in the world, a decent production budget and some crazy ingredients and you have Brew Masters. It is a cracking show for anyone with an interest in beer, even if it does delve into the standard Discovery Channel gimmick of “then potential crisis strikes…how will they get the brew done on time?” in every episode.

Built around Dogfish Head founder, Sam Calagione, the show and the star are genuinely engaging and the series contains enough grist to keep the beer fan interested, while built around a vehicle of reality TV crises and slight hyperbole.
