I tend to think that the ‘buy first and and then we’ll donate’ type of campaign is usually more about cynical marketing rather than corporate generosity, especially from a company as big as Wesfarmers. But in this case their 1st Choice Queensland stores are offering to donate all profits from sales until 30 January, which is a very big offer – especially as it spans the big Australia Day spending period – and the money is certainly much needed.

From Cairns to Cannon Hill, Rocky to Redcliffe, and Townsville to Toowoomba to Toowong, every time a beer is bought, a wine is acquired or a sparkling selected from a 1st Choice Liquor Superstore in Queensland from today (Monday 24th) through to Sunday January 30, the resulting profits will go directly to the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.

1st Choice Liquor Superstore, one of the country’s largest liquor retailers has put Queensland first and will donate all profits from sales at all 31 Queensland stores from January 24 through to 30 inclusive to the Appeal. That’s seven days of fundraising, with Australia Day right in the middle!

Tony Leon, General Manager Coles Liquor, said many 1st Choice stores across the state had been affected by the floods, and this was the group’s way of letting Queensland know that store teams are keen to make a contribution to the Flood Relief Appeal

“We have 1st Choice stores from Cairns down through Queensland and throughout Brisbane and the South East . Many of our stores and team members were directly affected by the floods and have seen first-hand the devastation this massive body of water has caused to people, homes, businesses and infrastructure,” he said.

“Our Toowong store remains closed due to flood damage, but thankfully all others are now open, and proudly doing what we do best – providing the people of Queensland with a huge range of liquor at incredible prices. Our decision to donate profits from the week’s sales means that customers can help contribute to the flood appeal simply by doing their liquor shopping with us.

“With Australia Day smack in the middle of next week, and all going well, we hope to raise some $150,000 to $200,000 for the appeal.”

The campain raised more than $208,000 support of Queensland flood victims.

“We have 1st Choice stores throughout Queensland and many of our stores and team members were directly affected by the floods. We have seen first-hand the devastation this massive body of water caused to people, homes, businesses and infrastructure”.

“This past seven days of fundraising has been inspiring. The generosity of Queenslanders never ceases to amaze us, from volunteering their time, to making a very conscious effort to support companies who are supporting the Flood Relief Appeal. Thank you Queensland.

“We had aimed to raise $150,000 to $200,000 and thankfully we bettered this, and raised $208,000, a really incredible result,” he said.
