Australia’s award winning O’Brien Beer gets a facelift
True to flavour without compromise, always gluten free

Ballarat, Australia – Award-winning Australian beer brand, O’Brien Beer, has recently undergone a rebrand with new packaging, bottles and labels. The new look bottles are heading into stores nationwide.

Naturally brewed and 100% gluten-free, O’Brien Beer developed a method for brewing great beers, true to flavour and without compromise, which similar products have struggled to achieve.

Rebellion Brewing, makers of O’Brien Beer, produce a range of four gluten-free beers made from millet and sorghum grains, extending from brown ale to smooth lagers to fruity pale ales as well as the world’s first naturally brewed gluten-free low alcohol beer.

Having been diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in 1998, owner and self- taught brewer, John O’Brien, quickly found that there was no Australian gluten-free beers on the market and no international beers that matched up to the taste of a good craft beer and so he decided to develop his own range. John explains:

“I was looking to make an all-natural gluten free beer, with no colourings or preservatives, that still tasted just as good as barley based beers, if not even better. Following some terrible initial attempts (and a fire in the back shed whilst trying to roast some grain), batch by batch these trial beers became better and better, to the point where I thought there could be a commercial opportunity.”

This unparalleled dedication to great taste and premium quality has meant that O’Brien Beer has won numerous awards since its formation in 2002 including; the inaugural gluten free beer awards in the UK, more than half a dozen Australian International Beer Awards and a silver medal at the World Beer Cup in the US in 2010 (category 14).

Consumers will be able to trial the various O’Brien Beers at the upcoming Gluten-Free Expos in Sydney in August, Melbourne in September and Brisbane in May 2013. Visitors will be able to taste just how good O’Brien gluten-free beers are.

About Rebellion Brewing

Rebellion Brewing was founded by John O’Brien in 2003 after he was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in 1998. John was unable to find any beer on the market that tasted as good as a traditional beer but without the gluten. John saw this gap in the market as an opportunity to create great tasting craft beer, which was also gluten-free.

In 2004 John was joined by brewer, Andrew Lavery, who was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in 2002, and O’Brien Beer was released to the market in August 2005. The pair went on to establish their own brewery in Ballarat in 2007. The newly branded Rebellion Brewery is set to move to a new site with a bar in the centre of Ballarat in late 2012, where visitors can experience a tour of the brewery with Andrew, and then settle in to sample some of the best beers around including their local Ballarat beer, The Rat.
