The Queensland Homebrewing Conference will be pouring an interesting range of beers throughout, as well as during the Food and Beer Matching Dinner, with Bacchus Brewing Company and CraftBrewer coming on board to support the event.

Bacchus Brewing Company is a small all-grain brewery, formerly run as a brew-for-you style brewery, that was taken over by Ross Kenrick last year. Ross also owns online homebrew supply business, Craftbrewer. Since taking over the business, Kenrick has been changing the focus of the business to concentrate on fresh wort kits and bespoke brewing for smaller venues.

Bacchus has quietly been establishing a name for itself at South East Queensland beer festivals, most recently winning the People’s Choice award at the Spotted Cow beer festival for a Black Imperial IPA named Cunning Ninja. Bacchus also brewed a one-off collaboration beer with McLaren Vale Beer Company’s head brewer, Jeff Wright, for the festival. The resulting beer, Vale/Cow IPA, was runner up in the People’s Choice award at the festival. Bacchus has also been approached to brew a special beer for the upcoming Regional Flavours Festival, a major local food producers festival at Brisbane’s Southbank. The beer features local ingredients including macadamia honey.

As part of their involvement in the conference, Bacchus Brewing Company will be producing the beers that will be served at the beer and food matching dinner to be held as part of the Queensland Brewing Conference. Bacchus will be brewing four beers for the night. Details can’t be released yet, but one of the beers is set to be another major collaboration brew.

Bacchus Brewing Company will also be the venue for the System Wars, where three different mashing systems (and their brewers) will face off against each other to see which brews the best beers. The beers brewed as part of the System Wars will be served up and voted on during the Conference.

“Its great to see Queensland holding its own homebrewing conference,” Ross said.

“We are keen to support activities that promote quality beer – both brewed at home and commercially.”

Ross is a long-time supporter of craft brewing. As founder of CraftBrewer and President of Brisbane Amateur Beer Brewers club (BABBS), Ross is well known around Brisbane for his brewing ability.

The Queensland Homebrewing Conference will take place on November 5, 2011.
