Canberra’s BentSpoke Brewing Co has hit another major milestone of 8 years since first opening its doors on June 6th, 2014. For anyone that hasn’t heard the story, BentSpoke Brewing Co is the brainchild of Champion Australian brewer Richard Watkins and Tracy Margrain and has become a Canberra institution distributing award winning beers across Australia.
The Birthday comes hand in hand with the very remarkable Imperial Stout or better known, this year, as Descent 22. It is a beer held in high esteem for Richard and Tracy who chose this style of beer as a celebration to their hard work and a way to create and share something special with the community, followers, and lovers of BentSpoke beers. The Beer is a 10% stout that feels like starting a downhill descent into the unknown. This year’s imperial stout has been aged in foeder barrels for 6 months. This time spent in barrels has allowed the immersion of vanilla, oak and wild yeast characters that combine with the roasty, bitter, black malt leather-like esters to complete this winter warmer.
Richard Watkins has said, ‘Descent 22 like it’s eight predecessors is a great combination of barrel ageing and roasty malty flavours that give you warmth, composure and sense that you have conquered winter.”
This RIS has become a local favourite and will be available on tap at the BrewPub and available on our online shop as of Sunday the 5th of June, and coming to all good bottle shops on the east coast for a limited time.
On Sunday the BentSpoke co-owning duo celebrated alongside their staff, loyal draughters and the public, launching their Birthday beer with some live local music, inspired canapes Bent birthday cake. Tracy Margrain – “Ever since we opened our doors back in June 2014, we have always celebrated our birthday with the whole BentSpoke family. It’s great to reflect on all our successes and celebrate those with all the people that have ridden that same trail.”
