The Melbourne craft brewing community and beer fans are invited to the third annual Big Bashes cricket match and family day to celebrate the city’s vibrant craft beer scene.

Last year, The Local Taphouse Hop Hounds levelled the head-to-head tally with the Maestros of Malt and hope to maintain bragging rights over the beer industry team of brewers and beer writers for at least another year. At stake is the Hop Ashes – a mini keg containing ashes of hops burned ceremonially at the inaugural game in 2014.

The day will feature a tug of war between brewers and beer fans, sausage sizzle, jumping castle, face painting, egg and spoon races, local craft beer for the big kids and much more. Respected beer larrikin Pete Mitcham will again take post as the celebrity umpire and all proceeds from food and drink sales will be donated to St Kilda Primary School.

“People in our industry rarely get a chance to just hang out together, particularly with their beer-loving friends, family and other beer fans,” says Taphouse co-owner Guy Greenstone, “so we hope the beer community comes out to celebrate what deserves to be celebrated!”
