Expressions of Interest open for Brewlab Gold Coast

The team at the Queensland Brewlab are seeking EOI’s from industry participants to take part in their upcoming beer flavour taint workshop on afternoon of the 7th June on the Gold Coast. Our hosts for the day will be Brennan and the team at Burleigh Brewing in Burleigh Heads.

Our presenters for the day will be Simone Moller (Consumer and Sensory Scientist – Department to Agriculture and Fisheries) and Anthony Clem (Master Brewer and Founder of WellBrewd Consulting). The workshop is designed for new and recent entrants to the craft industry. The content of the Worksop is spread across two main areas.

Part 1 is an introduction to sensory skills and is conducted by scientists from the Consumer and Sensory Science group of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. The session goes through the fundamentals of sensory science from first principles. This presentation is designed to be an interactive session and provides some innovate practical experiences rather than “death by PowerPoint.”

Part 2 is a familiarisation workshop looking at 10 of the most common flavour taints in beer, and the discussion on exactly how those taints can develop in the product through the production and packaging process. This year the Brewlab team have secured the services of Antony Clem to lead the tasting and the discussion. Anthony has a wealth of real-world experience and will offer some real-world context to the discussion about flavour faults and how they can come about.

The workshop is limited to 25 participants so please don’t hesitate to contact the team if you have any interest in this workshop. EOI’s can be sent directly to the Brewlab team vie the email address brewlab@daf.qld.gov.au .
