Shelter Brewing has collaborated with Hillzeez Down South Surf Shop on their latest Limited Release, the Shelter Surf Wax Sour.

The beer was inspired by the tantalising coconut aromas that come off a freshly opened block of surf wax.

Shelter Head Brewer Jason Credaro said he was stoked to work with the team from Hillzeez.

“My brothers, sister and I all grew up wearing Hillzeez, I think Mum must have been their biggest customer with five kids to shop for,” he said.

“Everyone knows the ad on the telly, every other car down here has a Hillzeez sticker and all of us locals have worn the brand at some point.

“Hillzeez is a South West icon which started right here in Busselton, so when we decided to make a surfing-inspired beer we knew there was no one better to do it with.”

Credaro said the Surf Wax Sour is all about the coconut.

“We put 50 kilograms of coconut, which was toasted in-house here at Shelter, in the beer at various stages of the brew to bring some surf wax vibes,” he said.

“It has provided a lovely, subtle accompaniment to the tropical and pineapple tang.

“We’ve ended up with an easy-drinking, refreshing sour – the perfect beer to crack post-surf.”

Hillzeez Operations Manager Ryan Callegari said Shelter and Hillzeez was a perfect collaboration.

“We are both independently owned and operated local businesses with a lot in common,” a Hillzeez spokesperson said.

“So it made sense to come together and throw some ideas around, and as they say, the rest is history.

“Surf Wax Sour is definitely a summer vibe, and we are all about that and we hope the public think so too.”

Hillzeez has produced a co-branded Shelter t-shirt, surf wax and car air fresheners for the release of the Surf Wax Sour.

The Surf Wax Sour will be available at Shelter and it will be the first beer on tap at the newly opened Sandgropers Bar in Leederville from Thursday 23 September, and at your local bar and bottle shop from Monday 30 September. For a limited time only.
